The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Northeastern Isle of Wight County in southeastern Virginia...
  The City of Hampton in southeastern Virginia...
  The Southern City of Newport News in southeastern Virginia...

* Until 330 AM EDT.

* At 109 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
  heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 1.5 inches of
  rain have fallen in the past 30 minutes. The expected rainfall
  rate is 1.5 inches in 30 minutes. Flash flooding is ongoing or
  expected to begin shortly.

  HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

  SOURCE...Radar.

  IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
           areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
           other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Newport News, Hampton, Smithfield, Christopher Newport University,
  Langley AFB, Hampton University, Suffolk, Isle Of Wight,
  Northampton, Rescue, Beaconsdale, Fort Monroe, Buckroe Beach,
  Grand View, Carrollton, Hilton Village, Mogarts Beach, Benns
  Church, Lawson and Longview.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. Do not stay in areas subject to flooding when
water begins rising.
